Each coaster is a grid of shell tiles, small and square, and the surface shifts between white and faint grey as the light moves across it. Stacked, the six read as one striped block rather than a pile of coasters. The mother of pearl is cut into squares and laid by hand, so the tile lines run slightly off-true and the tone varies from one to the next.

The shell does something no printed surface can — the tone moves between white and grey depending on where the light is coming from. Each tile is cut and set by hand, so the grid never runs perfectly true. Small enough to leave out, which is the point.

Leave them stacked rather than spread out — the layered edge is the most interesting angle, and the shell reads better against timber than against glass.

Shell is porous and does not like standing water — dry the surface after use. Harsh cleaners and direct heat will dull the tiles. Indoor use.

Cleaning: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not soak or put in the dishwasher.
