Her Hands: The Women Behind the Coffee Collection

We're particular about who we work with. Not every maker or product fits, and that's the idea of curation. When we came across Her Hands, it was the material that stopped us first — and then the story behind it.  So much so we felt it was important that we shared this brand and their story which we have never done before.

Her Hands is a Melbourne-based lighting brand founded by Sarré Guille. The pendants we carry are part of her Coffee Collection — made in small batches by a team of women artisans in Southern Africa using recycled coffee grounds and waste magazine pulp.

The process is slow and deliberate. Each shade is hand-formed by a single artisan and takes up to seven days to complete. Waste coffee grounds are worked into the pulp during production, giving the surface a soft, matte texture that feels closer to ceramic than paper. A light eco-friendly varnish seals the finish, making them suitable for kitchens and bathrooms.

The tone is hard to pin down in a name — it's a soft, warm neutral that reads differently depending on the light. Not quite sand, not quite clay. It sits easily with timber, stone and linen, which is why it works so well alongside the pieces we already carry.

What matters to us about this partnership goes beyond the product. The women who make these pendants have permanent contracts, fair trade employment and earn well above the minimum wage in their country. That's not a marketing line — it's the operating model.  Sarré built Her Hands specifically to create meaningful, long-term work for women artisans, and the business runs on that principle.  A future goal and inspiration for Coastalis.

We carry four pieces from the Coffee Collection: the Cone in large and medium, and the Ripple in large and small. The Cone is a classic pendant shape with real presence — the large holds its own over a dining table or kitchen island, the medium is right-sized for bedside or a bathroom. The Ripple is wider and lower-profile with a gently sculpted edge that brings movement and softness — the large works over dining tables and in rooms with lower ceilings, the small is made for reading nooks and intimate corners.

Every piece arrives ready to install with a white ceiling rose, 1.8m linen cable and electrical fitting included.

These are handmade in small batches. Stock is limited, and when it's gone, there's a wait for the next shipment. If you're building or renovating and working to a timeline, get in early.
