The weave spirals out from a single point, so the eye keeps travelling around the mat rather than stopping at an edge. Black is an unusual finish for rattan and it keeps the texture visible where a painted surface would flatten it. Each mat is hand-woven in Myanmar in a tight weave, with a bound edge that holds the circle true.

Black over rattan keeps the cane texture visible where paint would flatten it. The weave spirals from a single centre point, so it holds the eye longer than a straight weave. Six of these change a table more than most things at this price.

Round mats sit better on a round table, and they're the safest choice if your table is an odd width. Leave two out permanently — dark discs on pale timber stop a table reading as empty.

Rattan is not built for full outdoor use — sun and moisture will fade the finish and loosen the weave over time. Indoor, or a well-covered verandah. Don't soak or leave standing water in the weave.

Cleaning: Dust with a soft brush. Wipe with warm soapy water and dry straight away.
