Heavier in the hand than it looks, and cool to touch — bone has a density that reads as expensive the moment you pick it up. Each tile is cut, shaped and fitted individually, which is why the pattern shifts across the lid rather than repeating: some tiles honey, some near-white, the grain running in whatever direction the bone gave. The stained finish is the less common one. Most bone inlay you'll see is bleached white; this has been left warm, so it sits with timber and rattan instead of against them.

Handmade in Rajasthan, where the craft has been worked for centuries. 12cm across — right for rings and earrings on a bedside table, or the trinkets that collect on a vanity.

The inlay work is precise but not fussy — up close you can see how each tile has been individually shaped and fitted. The stained finish gives the bone a warm, aged quality that looks like it's been around for years. It's a functional piece that doubles as a decorative object.
