The Ishi sits low and round, its rim pinched and left uneven where it was worked by hand. Raw speckled clay runs up the base into a thick chalk-white glaze, pitted and pooled along the line where the two meet. The white reads rough rather than glossy, catching the light in the texture instead of off a sheen. It holds water, so it takes fresh stems as easily as it stands alone on a shelf or console.
The pinched rim keeps it honest — one of the rougher glazes in our coastal pots and vases.
Group it with smoother ceramics so the rough glaze stands out — odd numbers sit better than pairs.
Placement: Console, shelf, dining table
Perfect for: Adding handmade texture and contrast to a tonal shelf or tabletop.
Stoneware, handmade — size, glaze and texture vary piece to piece. Watertight, so it suits fresh flowers as well as dried.
Cleaning: Hand wash with mild soap and warm water. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
